Product Details

Washington On Tape puts the first American president in a recording session. The founding father who signed everything by hand is here splicing quarter inch tape, two centuries early and entirely at home with it.

About the design

The scene is painted in the manner of an eighteenth century oil portrait. Washington sits at a heavy mahogany table in a dark paneled room, white powdered hair, a navy coat over a buff waistcoat with brass buttons. He threads a length of magnetic tape onto a large silver reel to reel machine, its two reels catching the light. A candle burns in a brass holder at his left, and a splicing block, a coil of tape, handwritten letters and a quill in its inkwell fill the rest of the table. Deep browns and near black shadows throughout, printed as one portrait gallery wrapped canvas, ready to hang, with a floating frame available as an upgrade.

Where it works

Tall and dark, so it holds a wall without shouting: above a desk, beside a bookcase, or over a record console. It reads well in a home office, a study or a listening room, and the muted palette sits easily against white, gray or wood. A fair gift for anyone who still cares how a recording was made.

Part of the music wall art collection

Washington On Tape is part of our music wall art collection, where historical figures meet the machines that came long after them. See it beside the office wall art collection.

Built to last

Every piece is hand-stretched and built to last decades. If the canvas ever loosens, a light tap on the corner wedges draws it tight again.

Frequently Asked Questions

Email support@seembols.com. We usually reply within a few hours.

You have 30 days from delivery to send a piece back. The full purchase amount is refunded once it reaches us.

Shipping is free to the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, the European Union, Switzerland and Norway. Cyprus and Malta are the two exceptions. We ship everywhere else as well, at a rate calculated by destination at checkout.

Nothing is held in stock, so each piece is printed and stretched after you order it. That takes 3 to 6 business days, followed by 3 to 5 business days in transit to the US, Canada, the UK and the EU, or 4 to 7 elsewhere. Most orders arrive within 10 days.

Each canvas is gallery wrapped over its frame, and the hanging hardware is fitted to the back before it ships. There is no framing or assembly to do. A floating frame is available if you would prefer one.

The canvas is organic cotton, and the inks are archival and GREENGUARD Gold certified for low emissions. A piece can hang in a bedroom or a child's room without concern.

Dust it with a dry cloth when it needs it, and keep water and cleaning products away from the surface. Direct sunlight fades any print over the years, so a wall out of hard sun is best. If the canvas ever loosens, the corner wedges can be tapped to draw it tight again.
